Four Years!!

I wanted to post this yesterday, but blogger was not agreeing with our computer, so here it is a day late. Yesterday was our anniversary!! I can't believe it's already been four years...and almost four babies! I'm so thankful for Adam. I couldn't possibly want a better husband and papa for my children! I thought I'd post a few of our wedding pictures. I had lots of fun going back and looking at them. Enjoy!

I just realized that it's been a week and a half since I last posted...I can't believe how fast time goes! All is well at our house. Adam is busy finishing up his thesis and trying to get all of his end-of-the-semester things done. Graduation is only 3 weeks away! All of the children are doing great. We've had really nice weather here lately, so we've been spending lots of time outside. Esther will be walking soon. She's saying several words - baby, duck, bye-bye, Esther ("Etah"), diaper, uh-oh, all done - she tries to imitate a lot of what Joshua and Abigail say.

I'm 26 weeks now and I feel good. I'm about to start my 3rd trimester...the period of much weight gain. :-) I found a new doctor this week and I'm really excited about it. He's a Christian and he's very supportive of natural things and doesn't do a lot of the routine interventions that go along with hospital births these days. I talked to him for quite a while at my appointment the other day and I feel very comfortable with him and with his office. Everyone was so nice and understanding. (I also had an appointment this week with a midwife that has just been approved to deliver at a hospital across town, but I didn't feel comfortable with her and the office staff was really rude. When I told Adam about it he said that he would have just left even before seeing the midwife!) I will be delivering at a different hospital, but I think that it will be a good change. It's much smaller and more personal, it's very close to our house, and I'll have a recovery room all to myself! I had a roommate with both Joshua and Esther and it wasn't fun! After I had Esther I ended up leaving right at 24 hours (as soon as they would let me go) because the roommate situation was so undesirable. So I'm thankful for the new setup!

Here are a couple pictures of my babies enjoying the outdoors!

The Happy Dance

We're doing the happy dance today at our house...well, I am anyway! Adam is excited about our new-found bargains too, but I don't know if he'd go so far as to happy dance about them. :-) I have several blogging friends who are into the deals that you can get at CVS Pharmacy. Up until now I've read their posts and thought that it seemed awfully confusing and like an awful lot of trouble, but I decided to give it a go yesterday. I got my Extra Care Card out (which I've never used before), loaded the children in the van, and came back with this...

I don't normally buy brand name things. We mostly buy store brands because they are so much cheaper. However, all of the items pictured above turned out to be FREE!!! Can't beat that! And it was fun too! It does require some money up front (and since my shopping trip yesterday I have thought of a way that I could have done it that would have required less money up front), but you can get it all back and then some. My initial purchase was $85.39...which will show up on our credit card bill. But I now have $90.10 worth of Extra Care Bucks (ECB's) to use on future purchases. You use ECB's just like a coupon...it's very easy. And if I want I can use them on things that will give me more ECB's to use later. I'm still trying to figure everything out myself, and I'm starting to confuse myself by attempting to explain it, but it's great! A few of my blogging friends have posted that they never pay more than a couple of dollars (if anything at all) for household items. You just have to look at the store's ad each week and see what kinds of specials they have going on.

If anyone is interested, I'd be glad to share exactly how I managed to get these things for free. I didn't want to take the time to post it all here because maybe this is all old hat to you and you got way better deals than I did this week. If so, I'd love to hear how you did it!

Update: Okay, so Adam is doing the happy dance...literally...I'm not kidding! I'd take a picture and post it except that he won't let me. :-) He just ran something down to the pediatrician's office and decided to stop at CVS while he was out. He got himself a card and took advantage of the sales with his card too! (As far as we can tell, this is legal. I've looked for a on-per-household rule on the CVS website but I can't find anything about it. And the checkout lady at CVS seemed to think that it was perfectly fine for both of us to have a card.) So we have now spent $110.02 but have gotten $149.28 in ECB's!! Of course these things aren't really free unless we redeem our ECB's but I don't think we'll have a problem doing that. I've decided to make my weekly CVS runs on Monday mornings so that they're well stocked and I don't have to go to 4 or 5 stores around town trying to find the things that are on special that week. Here's an updated picture of our bargains. We shouldn't have to buy toothpaste, mouthwash, or toothbrushes for another year!

I guess I was wrong...

Well, I thought that the warm weather was here to stay, but we had a low of 27 last Saturday night and a high of 57 on Easter Sunday. Not frigid, but a little cooler than I expected. I had to run up into the attic to pull out a few of the warm, fuzzy pj's and sweaters that I had put away! But it's supposed to be back up to 81 by Friday. :-)

We've had an eventful couple of days. I had an appointment with my midwife yesterday and found out that the hospital is dragging it's feet on hiring more midwives, and she has accepted a much better position a few hours from here and is leaving at the end of June. So that answers that question for me! It seems that they won't be having a midwifery practice at that hospital anymore. I did learn that another hospital in town (we have 5!) has just approved having a midwife deliver there. I have a consultation appointment with her next week, so I'll be sure to post about that. I'm feeling good. I'm 25 weeks and I've gained a total of 9 pounds so far. I've got some of those nasty vericose veins on my left leg that have been bothering me. The midwife told me that they get worse as the pregnancy goes on and you just get more with each pregnancy. So I'm having to wear compression hose all the time except for at night (and I'm NOT wearing them when I go to exercise at the Y or when we go to the beach in May!). I don't really care about how the veins look...no one ever sees them except for when I wear shorts to exercise in, and that doesn't bother me. But they do kind of gross me out and they're very uncomfortable. Wearing the hose makes them feel better, so I really don't mind. I may change my mind about that when it's 100 degrees outside though!

The children and I spent a good chunk of today at the doctor's office and then at the Children's Hospital getting an x-ray of Joshua's tummy. He's been having a little bit of potty trouble the past couple of days...I'll spare you the details. But the x-ray showed that he had a little bit of backup and we're heading out to pick up a prescription in a few minutes. We're praying that it does the trick and that there's not something more serious going on.

We made an attempt to get some good pictures on Easter Sunday and here's what we came up with. Don't laugh too hard! Everyone was very squirmy (and cold outside!), so we had a little trouble. :-)

Baking Day

Adam is off of school this week for spring break and we've been spending lots of time outside. Joshua and Abigail helped him plant the garden yesterday and they planted some flowers this morning. I'm trying to get the house in order. It seems like things get so messy over the weekend! I'm in the process of taking all of the winter clothes to the attic and bringing the summer ones down to wash and put away. It's been in the 80's consistently for a couple of weeks now, so I'd be surprised if it gets cold again. I spent my entire morning baking...with a little help from Joshua and Abigail. We made whole wheat bread (plain and cinnamon raisin), some wheat cinnamon rolls, and wheat muffins (millet, oatmeal/raisin/nut, blueberry, and chocolate chip). I'm going to freeze a lot of it for later consumption - maybe when it's too hot to do much baking!

Here are a couple more pictures of Graeme and one of my own sweet ones looking at their baby pictures.
