Long Walk

Whoa! Three posts in three days! Don't fall off your computer chair or anything...just trying to make up for my recent bad habit of posting every 2 weeks.

There are a lot of pretty places to walk here, and one of our favorites is the trail that runs between the river and the canal. The entrance to the trail is only about a 3 minute drive from our house, so we go there fairly often. We walked 8 miles this morning! Saturdays are pretty much my only chance to get exercise since that is when Adam has the time to go with me and I can't push 2 double strollers by myself during the week. (And pushing a double stroller while carrying one child in a backpack and one in a frontpack doesn't appeal to me much!) I must say that 8 miles turned out to be a little much for me, but hey, it's good to push myself. The children did great...Hannah slept the whole time and aside from a little fussiness the "big" kids enjoyed themselves as well.

One last thing...this is a good reason not to pig out on ice cream while pregnant. Unfortunately that's a big temptation for me, especially in the last trimester!

Camping

The kids are having their first camping experience tonight! Adam set up the tent in the backyard and built a campfire and we roasted hot dogs and made s'mores for dinner. Adam and Joshua are sleeping outside in the tent (actually they're out there reading poetry by flashlight now!) and the girls and I are "camping" inside. :-) I had planned to snuggle up with Abigail and Esther and watch Anne of Green Gables tonight, but our weenie roasting took a good bit longer than expected, so we're going to have to save that for another night. Abigail, Esther, Hannah, and I are going to get up in the morning and make eggs, bacon and pancakes for our men. :-) Abigail is especially excited about that!

Enjoying hot dogs and beans outside...Hannah was enjoying the stars for a while, but she's not too happy in this picture!

Hannah says...

"Hi!" Hannah and I thought we'd post a quick update while the "big" kids are still sleeping. She's sitting here at the computer smiling at me as I type. :-) Motherhood is wonderful! Things are going fine here...I'm finally getting caught up on cleaning and laundry after the wedding! I was planning to take the children to the park after naps today, but it looks like it's going to rain. Someone in our church passed two little bicycles on to us. They're just the right size for Joshua and Abigail and they've been asking to ride them, so I thought we'd take them to the park. Maybe tomorrow!

I hear three little voices calling for me to get them up. Esther is saying "Nak, nak, nak" (aka snack)!

Our Week

The past week has been full and eventful for us! We went to Aiken's Makin' (an arts and crafts show) last weekend. I'm not really into craft shows that much, but I've been to this one every year since I was about 5 or 6, so it's kind of a tradition. It's fun to walk around and look, and the food is good. :-) Joshua and Abigail were excited about going this year and I enjoy taking them...they're not that much younger than I was when I started going!

Life is going pretty well here. I'm about to start some formal homeschooling with Joshua...after next weekend. (I'm playing for a wedding next Saturday. The bride is a professional cellist and she's picked some difficult music. Which is good! I enjoy the challenge and it's nice to be playing something other than "Here Comes the Bride" and Pachelbel's Canon for the bazillionth time! It is, however, requiring a good bit of practicing on my part, which the children aren't too fond of me doing. It's hard to get a good 5 minutes of practicing in without someone trying to climb on the organ or play along with me!) Anyway, Joshua is ready to start learning how to read and start on our math curriculum. I'm going to incorporate a few other things in too, and involve Abigail in almost all of it and Esther in some. But I haven't figured out all of the details yet...after the wedding. I'm also going to start teaching Joshua (and Abigail if she's interested) to play the piano. As for Esther, I'm trying to teach her not to shriek in the middle of Hannah's nap and wake her up...or to poke her in the eye, or lick her face. This girl keeps me on my toes!

Hannah is doing great. She's still eating well and I think she's gaining weight well too...I take her back to the doctor at the beginning of October, so we'll find out then. She's sleeping great and she's so sweet. I was having to use the bulb suction on her this morning and she just kept smiling at me the whole time!

Dental school is going well for Adam. He's busy, but he likes it and there are some nice people in his class. We're all going to "family day" over there tomorrow so we can see some of the things that he does and will be doing. I'm doing well too. Some days everything is very calm and I'm able to keep on top of things with no problem, and other days I feel like I'm being chased by a Mac truck and if I slow down I'll get smushed! I feel bad that I'm not able to spend more time playing and reading with the children (together and one-on-one). There will be more of that in our post-wedding schedule though. I'm trying to incorporate them into my housework more. They love to help me...especially Abigail. She probably asks me twenty times a day if she can "please have a help you". :-)

Enjoy the pictures!

Esther loves dirt. :-)

That's a pretty good sized double chin on that baby!

Messed Up

Well, there's something wrong with my blog and I have no idea how to fix it. I know virtually nothing about html and that sort of thing, but my posts are running into each other. I think I might have messed it up when I put the kids' tickers on...maybe if I just take them off it'll fix the problem? Anyone have any suggestions?
