"On Good Friday we had an employee from San Diego County come to our house, and inform us that the bible study that we were having was a religious assembly, and in violation of the code in the county." David Jones told FOX News.
"We told them this is not really a religious assembly — this is just a bible study with friends. We have a meal, we pray, that was all," Jones said.
A few days later, the couple received a written warning that cited "unlawful use of land," ordering them to either "stop religious assembly or apply for a major use permit," the couple's attorney Dean Broyles told San Diego news station 10News.
But the major use permit could cost the Jones' thousands of dollars just to have a few friends over.
Apparently this Bible study consists of around 15 people, not a few hundred like the county is making it sound. How sad and ridiculous. Definitely a situation to pray about and fight back on.
For David and Mary Jones, it's about more than a question of money.
"The government may not prohibit the free exercise of religion," Broyles told FOX News. "I believe that our Founding Fathers would roll over in their grave if they saw that here in the year 2009, a pastor and his wife are being told that they cannot hold a simple bible study in their own home."
"The implications are great because it’s not only us that’s involved," Mary Jones said. "There are thousands and thousands of bible studies that are held all across the country. What we’re interested in is setting a precedent here — before it goes any further — and that we have it settled for the future."

I hit some yard sales for the first time in months this past Saturday. I took Hannah and Noah (the two most high-maintenance) so that Adam could get some work done around the house, and we had a great time! We found several great deals, but this is my favorite.
I got it for $12!! It was originally $16, but I talked the man down a little. :) It took the place of the playhouse that Grandma and Grandpa in Kansas sent the children for Christmas. They loved the playhouse, but they have completely worn it out and it has definitely seen better days!
I also found a pair of crutches for $2 (they run around $30-$40 new). The pair that Adam is using belongs to the doctor's office on base...they are just letting him borrow them. Adam had specifically asked me to keep my eyes peeled for crutches, so I was excited to find them!

Noah got his first two teeth last week. He's the earliest so far! He was a little bit fussy, but for the most part he handled teething like a champ. :) He decided that today would be a good day to try them out on me while nursing. Fun!
Here's my first attempt at photographing his teeth. :)
And there they are, the little stinkers!

I've run across a few links lately that I think are definitely worth sharing. They aren't really related in any way, but they're all good!
I found out about these skirts on Emily's blog, and I'm so excited about them! They're normally $24.95, which comparatively isn't bad for a brand new skirt. But right now they're on sale for $19.95, and if you sign up here (scroll to the bottom of the page and there will be a place to enter your email address), they will email you a coupon for $25 off of a purchase of $75 or more. I got my coupon withing 15 minutes of submitting my email address. So if you purchase 4 skirts and use the coupon, you can get them for $13.70 each! They come in six different colors, and I should mention that they seem to run a little large. I usually wear a medium skirt, but I had to get the small in this one. I actually went back and bought a few mediums to use as maternity skirts. They have a really comfortable and stretchy waist band, so I think they'll be great to wear while pregnant!
My sister-in-law Amanda shared a great recipe for refried beans on her blog not long ago. I tried it this past week and I love it! Canned refried beans are so bland, but this recipe is very tasty. You can make a great snack by dipping carrot sticks or pita chips into them, and we've also had them with chicken quesadillas. I'm getting hungry just typing about them! It's an incredibly easy recipe too. You just dump the ingredients in the crock pot and let them go all day. They make the house smell great too. Can you tell I'm excited about it?!? Be sure to try them out and leave Amanda a comment letting her know how good they are. :)
Lori posted about these cute graduation desserts and I wanted to blog about them so that I would remember to make them when Adam graduates from dental school in two years. :)
Emily (again!) posted a link to a great message on child rearing by Voddie Baucham. This is something that I think every parent should listen to. It is wonderful, and I plan to listen to it once a month or so to help keep myself on track. :) It's easy to become slack and inconsistent with discipline, but Dr. Baucham really tells things like they are, and his message is both encouraging and convicting.

Yesterday I saw an article on our newpaper's website. I won't link to it, since I'd rather not disclose too many specifics about where we live, but apparently you can pay $1 for a key tag at Wendy's that will get you a free junior Frosty as often as you want to use it through December 1st. The money goes to support the local children's hospital. I wouldn't want to eat a Frosty every day (well, actually I would, but you know...), but it would be a nice treat every once in a while. I'm guessing that most of not all Wendy's restaurants are doing this, so you may want to check with the one near you!

So apparently blog decorating is sort of like home decorating. I'm not so good at it. I know what I like when I see it, but I can't come up with it myself. I can't seem to find a template that I like. I've come across several that I think I like, but when I upload them they just don't do much for me. Where did you all get your templates from? Did you have to pay someone to do them, or did you find them for free? Any suggestions? Please?

I'm trying to download a new template for my blog and apparently I don't know what I'm doing. :) I didn't realize that it would show up immediately (I didn't save the changes...at least not that I know of), but it did and I don't really like it. I'll be messing around with it over the next few days until I get it the way I want it. Until then, just ignore the funky changes!

Remember the nice, new double jogging stroller that Adam gave me for Christmas?
Well it's not so nice and new anymore.
Adam has a lot going on these days and sometimes he gets overwhelmed and takes his frustrations out on whatever happens to be nearby.
This time it happened to be my wonderful Schwinn that I liked so much. :(
Just kidding, of course! :) The stroller actually broke. I was pushing Hannah and Esther through Hobby Lobby last week and heard a snap. Nothing seemed to be wrong, so I didn't give it much thought. When I went to fold it up though, I noticed that the whole joint on the left side had broken in two. There's a plastic part there that just snapped right off! Thankfully it has a five year warranty, so I made a few phone calls and found out that the part is not replaceable. They are going to have to replace the whole stroller, and before they will place the order for the new stroller we have to destroy the old one (the lady said by "cutting up the frame, smashing it to pieces, or any other way as long as the frame of the stroller is not able to be rigged for use or used again"). Adam is kindly doing it for me. I don't think I could do it! It just feels so wrong to destroy an almost perfectly good double jogger! The only way we can figure to do the job is to take an ax to it. I don't think I'll be able to watch.
Yes, that is a crutch that Adam is pretending to hit the stroller with. And no, he wasn't really hitting the stroller with it. Don't worry, we were not teaching Joshua to be destructive. He looks rather amused in the pictures though, doesn't he? He had just helped Adam take the stroller apart bolt by bolt...in a very calm manner. :)
Anyway, back to the crutch. To make a long story short, Adam hurt his knee last week. He tore his ACL in that knee nine years ago in the Army and had an ACL reconstruction. The doctor thinks that he tore his meniscus, which would require more surgery. He wasn't able to put any weight on that leg at first, but he is able to put a little bit on it now. He only took one crutch with him to the dental school today and managed pretty well, but he still has a good bit of pain. He will have an MRI soon, so we'll know more specifics and have a plan after that. We would appreciate your prayers. Adam just started his summer semester and doesn't really have time for surgery right now. His next good long break is at Christmas, which is quite a ways off. It's a good thing that God is sovereign and has better timing that we do...even though we may not think so at the time!

Esther is 3 today!!
She was our biggest newborn (so far!) at 8lb 12oz. Look at those fat cheeks! She's still quite a solid little girl!
She's always been very photogenic. This is one of my favorite pictures of her.
Pretty blue eyes
She loves being a big sister!
She's almost always smiling or giggling about something.
- is very committed to whatever she is doing (or feeling!). She is intensely happy, intensely sad, intensely bubbly, or intensely grumpy. There really aren't many in-betweens with her. And she can go from one to another in a matter of seconds!
- loves to help Mama, though she's really always been a Papa's girl and is happiest when he is home.
- loves babies and wants to do anything and everything that her older brother and sister do.
- loves to do school. She has great fine motor skills and can figure out how many syllables are in a word faster than her big siblings. She holds a pencil perfectly and enjoys drawing.
- loves to "read" to Hannah or Noah.
- love to sing and has great pitch!

We ate outside at a restaurant one night at the beach and had several different birds pestering us. They swooped at us, hovered right above our heads, hopped right up to our table, and were just being generally annoying. I got up to take a child to the restroom, and when I came back the birds were gone. They didn't just move to the table next to us. They were nowhere to be seen. Apparently Esther had made this face at them and scared them away. Yesterday I asked her how she made the birds go away, and she showed me this face and said that she had spit at them! She was also waving around a plastic fork and was wrapped up in Grandma's black sweater. I think I would have left too! :)

Don't forget to enter the giveaway that ends on Thursday!!
Papa and Joshua enjoying the sunset and the marsh.
Hannah being her funny little self. :)
Wearing Grandpa's hat!
Jumping waves with Grandma and Grandpa
Joshua loved being in the water this year.
Noah wasn't too fond of the wind, so he spent a lot of time in the stroller with the rain shield down.
Noah managed to squeeze some reading into his busy schedule.
We celebrated Esther's third birthday (which is next Monday) at the beach house. We celebrated her first birthday two years ago at the beach. I can't believe how grown up she looks in this picture!
Joshua...completely unaware that I was taking his picture.
Hannah with her shades. :)

We have been away at the beach this week and just got back this afternoon. We had a great time! There were not many people there and Adam commented yesterday that it felt like we had the island to ourselves. Edisto is a small island that has just a couple of gift shops and restaurants and hardly any tourist attractions. Few tourists means few scantily clad beach-goers! When we were actually on the beach we only saw a handfull of people, and I only recall seeing one bikini.
We went with my parents and even got in a few wild rounds of Dutch Blitz after the children were in bed. :) Joshua and Abigail really enjoyed jumping waves with Grandma and Grandpa, and Esther and Hannah warmed up to the idea of getting in the water faster than I thought they would. Adam and I got to ride bikes a couple of times, and we just had a great week overall!
More pictures to come...

Thanks so much for all of your comments on this post! Everyone was very helpful and I appreciate your input.
Adam and I (and Noah, of course!) went away for one night last weekend to celebrate our anniversary. The four "big" children had a blast at Grandma and Grandpa's house and we went about 45 minutes away to a small town bed and breakfast. It was really nice, although we missed the breakfast since I had to be back to play for church on Sunday morning. We were disappointed about that, but it was still lots of fun!
There was an old train station there that was turned into a consignment store and we found some great bargains! We were able to get some home decorating sorts of things for really cheap and probably the most exciting find for me was a Britax carseat for $25!! It looks like it has barely been used. There was one spot on the cover that looked like a melted piece of candy, but I washed/disinfected it twice and it came out spotless!
We went away to celebrate our anniversary, but we didn't get one picture of just the two of us! We have lots of Noah pictures though. :)
All ready to go!
There was a national park close by and Noah enjoyed checking out the canon there.
Playing miniature golf
Fun with Papa
Sitting on the verandah at the bed and breakfast.

...from the past few weeks.
I can't believe how teeny weeny Noah looks in the "Bumbo Bee", as Hannah calls it!
Bread gone bad. This is a combination of a new bag of yeast and me forgetting that I was making bread!
Hannah's first piggy tails!
This picture reminds me of this picture.
Abigail fell asleep while coloring.

I hear a lot about what Adam does at dental school, but I don't ever get to see it. One of his classmates posted this on her Facebook page, so I snagged it to post here. He looks kind of professional, doesn't he? :) He juggles an awful lot of things, and I'm very proud of him!

I figured out how to make the pictures larger. I'm not exactly sure what I did differently, but here they are! They should get even bigger if you click on them. All of these were done at Picture People.
We thought it was kind of odd that they wanted to take one with just us and Noah, but it turned out cute. I love Noah's eyes in this one. :)
Esther was about to give Hannah a kiss. This one was not posed at all. It was supposed to be of all of the children, but they weren't cooperating so well and Hannah and Esther were just doing their own little thing. That's one of the things that I like about Picture People. They snap on the fly and come up with some really nice shots.
This is another one that wasn't planned. We weren't going to get individual shots, but the photographer caught this one of Esther and I love it!
